WHY, HOW, WHAT is the Standards Assessment Inventory2 (SAI2):

A Conversation with Steve Preston

Our guest today is again Steve Preston, an educational leader in Georgia and a Senior Consultant with Learning Forward’s Center for Results. Steve’s passion is professional learning, of course, Steve has been a classroom teacher, a middle school and high school principal, served as a curriculum developer and a Division Director for the Georgia Department of Education (DOE). During his leadership at the Georgia state department.  Steve led the state in the early adoption of the LF Standards of Professional Learning.  He is an expect on the use of the SAI2 and will share specific uses of it with us today.  It is an inventory that asks teachers what they do every day at their school.

We know that Professional Learning is essential for improving the performance of educators and student achievement. Professional learning is standards based, data driven and job embedded.  The SAI2 is a powerful tool to collect data around the professional learning at the building level. Are the practices at a school aligned with the PL standards?

Today we “go deeper” as we examine the uses of this research-based tool, knowing multiple data is critical for continuous improvement.  We want data that can be used to make improvements immediately and on a regular basis.  SAI2 can be used by schools, districts and even states to drive their continuous improvement efforts. Learn how states have USED this data.

Steve shares all of the details of this survey and how it can be used – the specifics!! Again, it is about the practices of a building/district. It is aligned with the PL standards, is diagnostic and used in planning.

Again, the SAI provides a building data from the teachers in their building that helps educators determine if their practices are aligned with the PL standards, their continuous improvement efforts, and their goals.  It’s about the conversations about LEARNING!!

Learn more about Steve’s experiences with supporting districts and states using the SAI2.

If you have questions, do contact Steve and/or Learning Forward’s website.
